PARADIGM SHIFT

Today, we are in a good place, because our post-modern world has given us the permission to think in different ways. The institutional church can be challenged without one being burned at the stack. We can contest the idea of unassailable authority, hierarchical claims of knowledge and infallible doctrines. For example, with the current exposure of pedophilia within the Catholic Church the claims by priest to be God’s representatives on earth has been made a farse. Today, we can do our own theology, by speaking about our own experiences of God.
The reinvention of the Sacred, the abandonment of ‘elsewhere’ God to a God ‘within’ the universe, is the most stunning example of this paradigm shift. While rejecting the concept of God being elsewhere, who is limited by location, we don’t invent a God who is ever-present. This everywhere God is not an example of dualistic, either/or thinking, where one is substituted for another. The transcendence is not rejected. The immanence of the Sacred being with us is possible because of Its transcendent limitlessness.
This paradigm shift has endless repercussions for establish doctrines. The concept of an everywhere God will disrupt centuries of systematic theology.
