THE BEST POSSIBLE HUMAN BEING
Jesus of Nazareth discovered the kind of person who
can create the best possible world. Matthew collected all these characteristics
and has Jesus describing them on the Sermon on the Mount. Each ability is
linked in meaning with all the rest. Nothing is at odds with anything else. The
person who possesses these characteristics is the best possible human being.
These characteristics are the ability to: – be humble in mind, overcome
adversity, resist oppression non-violently, give justice to the disadvantage,
empathize with others in need, make and keep a commitment, forgive the past and
create lasting peace, and overcome fear in following Jesus. These abilities are
the essential characteristics of love.
Paul, in his epistle to Corinthians, describes love as being kind,
not boastful or rude, not irritable or resentful, patient, bears all things and
endures all things. All these abilities are present, in potential, in every
human being; they can all nurtured and grown to their full potential. What
abilities do you need to work on if you are to walk with integrity and to
create the kingdom of heaven on earth?
